Equine-Facilitated Therapy
Discover the healing power of horses.
At Bridle Path Counselling, we offer Equine-Facilitated Therapy — a unique way of combining the wisdom of horses with the support of therapy. Whether you are seeking new ways to manage stress, heal from past experiences, or deepen your sense of connection, equine therapy provides a safe, supportive, and meaningful path forward.
At Bridle Path Counselling, equine therapy integrates evidence-informed counselling methods with structured equine interactions to promote emotional regulation, relational skills, and self-awareness. Sessions are ground-based (non-riding) and focus on client goals.
Why Equine-Facilitated Therapy?
Horses have been part of my life for more than 25 years. From growing up in the barn, to working in therapeutic riding programs, to spending time with donkeys in sanctuary care, I’ve seen firsthand how profound the bond between humans and equines can be.
In my counselling work, I’ve also witnessed how powerful equine partners can be in helping clients to find hope, strength, and new perspectives.
I’m currently a certification candidate with the Professional Association for Equine Facilitated Wellness (Pro-EFW) and bring together my clinical training (trauma therapy, EMDR, mindfulness, and more) with my lifelong love of horses to create a safe and supportive space for healing. I am practicing EFW work under the mentorship of a certified Pro-EFW therapist and mentor.
About Equine-Facilitated Therapy
-
Equine-Facilitated Wellness (EFW) is a way of working with horses to support emotional, mental, and physical wellbeing. These sessions aren’t about horseback riding — instead, they focus on building connection with horses through activities like grooming, leading, observing, and simply being present with them.
Horses have an incredible ability to sense what’s happening around them and to respond in the moment. Working alongside them can help us learn more about ourselves, practice healthy boundaries, improve communication, and discover new ways of coping with stress, anxiety, and life challenges.
-
People often find equine-facilitated work helpful when they are:
Coping with stress, anxiety, or depression
Navigating trauma or difficult life experiences
In recovery from substance use and wanting new tools for growth
Looking to build confidence, strengthen communication, or practice healthier boundaries
Simply curious about the healing presence of horses
You don’t need any horse experience to take part — we’ll guide you every step of the way.
-
Sessions take place outdoors in a natural farm setting with horses and other animals present.
All activities are ground-based (no horseback riding).
A complimentary consultation is required prior to beginning equine sessions to ensure fit and safety.
Sessions are paced according to your comfort, with opportunities for reflection, counselling, and experiential learning.
-
Your safety — and the wellbeing of the horses — always comes first. The horses we work with are carefully chosen for their gentle nature and are cared for with love and respect. Before starting, we’ll review health considerations (like allergies or mobility needs) and make sure you feel comfortable.
